A bit philosophical perhaps, but nevertheless this is something I strongly believe in. No matter what phase of life you're in, no matter what you set out to do, it all starts with planning. Both in work as in personal life, if you do not plan, you're set to fail. So my motto was, is and will be to plan ahead and then start executing that planning.
If something or someone is posing a threat to the things you set out to do, deal with that as soon as possible and resume the course you've set out.
At this time we have got some planning of our own to do and quite a lot of execution as well. Having returned to Malta a week ago we've got our kitchen refurbishment coming up. It will start in the last week of January by taking out the old kitchen. First week of February the new kitchen will be assembled. In these weeks our bookshelves will be put in and both the bathrooms will be adapted to our preference.
When that's all done we will be able to unpack the last sixty boxes, thus clearing out the main guest room. After that we can put a bed in the guest room and some other furniture so it can be used as such. By the end of February this should be all done and it had better, because we're flying to Holland in the second week of March. There we're planning to sign the deed to the apartment we are in the process of buying.
So the target is to do the transfer of that apartment first half of March. Since that needs some work too, we'll have to contact a handyman beforehand to plaster and redecorate the walls after which we will replace the carpets in the bedrooms and finish off the wooden floor in the rest of the place with matching skirting board. Meanwhile we'll order some furniture and move in. We are aiming to get that all done by mid april and fly back to Malta sometime around late April, early May.
This may sound a bit ambitious but we should be able to pull it off. Like I said, it's all about planning. Speaking of which, a number of friends and relatives are planning to spend some time with us in Malta and we are really looking forward to that. Some have already booked their flight. It will be nice to welcome them (back) to Malta.
Of course we will be spending some time in the Netherlands as well to enjoy our apartment there. Since it's located in the very northern part of Groningen we intend to enjoy discovering that part the country and it's lovely scenery.

Een beetje filosofisch, dat wel, maar desalniettemin is het iets waar ik sterke waarde aan hecht. In welke fase van je leven je je ook bevindt, wat je ook doet, het begint allemaal met een goede planning. Zowel in je werk als in je persoonlijk leven is planning noodzakelijk. Het zal altijd mijn motto zijn, maak een plan en begin met uitvoeren.
En als er iets of iemand probeert jouw uitvoering te dwarsbomen, los dit dan zo snel mogelijk op en ga door met je uitgestippelde plan.
Op dit moment moet er veel gepland en uitgevoerd worden. We zijn nu een week terug in Malta en onze verbouwing van de keuken komt eraan. Dit zal de laatste week van januari beginnen, dan wordt de oude keuken eruit gehaald en de week erop de nieuwe erin gezet. Intussen zullen ook onze boekenplanken geplaatst worden en de badkamers naar onze zin worden aangepast.
Als dat allemaal gebeurd is zullen we de laatste zestig verhuisdozen met boeken uitpakken, zodat de gastenslaapkamer vrijkomt om er een bed en wat ander meubilair in te zetten. Dan hebben we een logeerkamer.
Een en ander moet eind februari klaar zijn, omdat we in de tweede week van maart opnieuw naar Nederland vliegen.
Dan ligt in de planning de koopakte van ons appartement te tekenen.
Dit tekenen zal omstreeks half maart plaatsvinden. Voordat we er intrekken moet er ook wat werk gebeurd zijn. Er moet contact worden gelegd met een klusjesman, die de muren moet stucen en behangen. Daarna moet het tapijt uit de slaapkamers vervangen worden en de houten vloer voorzien worden van bijpassende plinten. Intussen moeten er meubels besteld worden en geleverd. Dit moet allemaal rond half april gebeurd zijn, omdat we daarna weer terug willen naar Malta. Uiterlijk begin mei.
Het klinkt allemaal een beetje ambitieus, maar het moet mogelijk zijn. Zoals ik al zei, het is allemaal een kwestie van plannen. Ook sommige familieleden en vrienden zijn aan het plannen om een tijdje met ons in Malta te verblijven. Sommigen hebben al een vlucht geboekt. We kijken er naar uit om ze een warm welkom te bieden.
Het is uiteraard ook de bedoeling dat we de tijd in Nederland gebruiken om te genieten van ons appartement en de mooie omgeving. Het appartement en dorp ligt in het noordelijke deel van Groningen en moet nodig verkend worden.
